BUYERS NOTES

These bright yellow Icelandic poppies look stunning planted in clumps in the middle of cottage garden borders where they‚ll bloom all summer on sturdy stems. They make great cut flowers (add stems to boiling water to keep heads up)‚Äì pick some in bud and let them prettily unfurl in a vase.

Sowing Information:

Sow seeds in late summer from July to August, or in spring from February to april. Sow seed on the surface of a free-draining, damp seed compost and cover with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag at a temperature of around 18-20°C (64-68°F), until after germination. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.

Growing Information:

When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or module trays. Grow on in cool, well-lit conditions. When plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before planting outdoors. Feed and water poppy plants frequently throughout the summer. Icelandic poppies are biennial and will flower in the following year. Deadhead faded poppy flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to be produced.
